Autumn 2
Botanical woodland painting created by collecting local flora from Delapre Abbey in Northamptonshire.
Surrounding Delapre Abbey is 500 acres of parkland and a lake to explore. Each year my daughter and I rock up in autumn with our tote bags and see who can find the best fallen conkers from our favourite horse chestnut tree. She also later helps me arrange and photograph them, along with the crispy colourful leaves, mossy broken branches and other woodland litter that has crept into our totes. These photographs are the inspiration for the whole autumn collection.
Part of a collection about reconnecting with the memories we all have of exploring and interacting with the environment as young children. Who doesn't remember collecting colourful leaves and shiny conkers and the best stick when we were young? I try to put a more grown up spin on the still lives by using a muted tonal colour palette in oil paint.
